A Sad Mother's Day...

Today is Mother's Day. A day to celebrate. At least for most of us. However, this year I joined the ranks of the motherless daughters. My mother passed away on November 2, 2013. My mom was my best friend. My cheerleader. My confidante. My mom. I miss her every single day.

To be a Mom is an honor. I wish more mothers realized this. God loans us his children. He entrusts us to raise them right and honor Him by doing so. I failed miserably at this as a young mother. My mom - succeeded!

My mom was a stay-at-home mom most of my life. She spent summers teaching me and my brothers arts and crafts and writing for fun. We played in the back yard and gardened.

My mom taught me the value of family and togetherness. She taught me perseverance and unconditional love. She taught me how to make lemonade out of lemons. My mom taught me how to make biscuits and gravy from scratch - which seems to be a lost art. She taught me how to make fried chicken and how to cut up a whole fryer. Mom taught me the value of holidays and homemade gifts - made with love.

Mom taught me how to laugh and enjoy life to the fullest. She raised 5 children and never complained. Even when it seemed we had nothing. She made me feel rich! She sewed our school clothes to save money. I always had beautiful clothes. She made my last wedding dress.

My mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer in June 2011. The cancer had metastasized to her lungs and her liver and her lymph nodes.  The doctor instructed to get her affairs in order. She would be lucky to live to see Christmas. She looked the doctor square in his face and said, "Doc, I will celebrate my 50th Wedding Anniversary on May 4, 2013. You can bet I will live to see that day!" AND SHE DID!

My mom survived 3 rounds of chemo. She was sick often. But never complained. She was in the hospital frequently. But still laughed about life. She smiled and asked the nurses to keep her window opened so she could see the sun. She loved the outdoors and loved her animals.

I had the honor of caring for my mom in her last few weeks on earth, in my home, in hospice. We laughed and cried together. I fed her and bathed her. I got up in the wee hours of the mornings when she was scared, lonely or hungry. I never complained. I did it all in love. I owed her that. I owed God that.

On this Motherless Mother's Day, I can gratefully say, I am honored to have had such an incredible Mother!!

Bead Soup Blog Hop #8 Reveal Day!!

Guess what day it is!?!?

"Hey Mike, is it Hump Day?"

"No Silly!! It's BSBH Reveal Day!!"

"Oh Em Gee!!"

What is a Bead Soup Blog Hop

It is a party hosted by the FABULOUS Lori Anderson

She pairs jewelry designers with other jewelry designers. We send each other a quality package of beads, a focal, and a clasp. We make one or more pieces of jewelry with those beads, incorporating beads from our own stash as needed. The focal and clasp that were sent MUST be used. We post our creation on the designated reveal day, and then we try to visit as many of the other designers' blogs.

This party has become such a popular event that Lori wrote a book about it.
You can find this book at Hobby Lobby or other book stores.

You can find my previous BSBH designs and entries here:
(You can also check out my previous partners. Just click on their names).

Bead Soup Blog Hop #7 - This was my 2nd Bead Soup to participate. Loretta Carstensen was my partner. She sent some gorgeous organic beads in luscious colors and great floral focal.

Bead Soup Blog Hop #6 -This was my first ever Bead Soup Blog Hop. I was so honored to be accepted as a participant. I had a great partner who loves CATS! She sent me a feline focal and I loved it!! Eleanor Burian-Mohr was my partner.

This Bead Soup Blog Hop, I met a new partner. Donetta Farrington of Simply Gorgeous. We exchanged emails. Donetta has a wonderful since of humor and is creative in her jewelry designs as well. She shared her struggles with her car having to have a new motor. Which is COSTLY!!! Donetta discovered my favorite color is purple and sent me a purple soup!

I forgot to take pictures of the bead soup when it arrived. I was so excited when I opened the package and saw all the purple!! And the STUNNING BUTTERFLY!  Here is the letter she sent with my soup:

I began playing with the beads. Grouping, connecting. Then I looked through my own stash of purple to see what I could add to the mix. I discovered some forgotten headpins that I brought out to play!

The first design began to fall in place. I made my own chain with the swirled headpins. However, I soon realized the clasp that Donetta sent would not "fit" this design.

I also struggled with which focal to use. Thanks Donetta for sending me 3 focals! CHOICES!!! UGH!!

I really LOVE this butterfly. But I did not like the way it worked with the beads. I put it away for another day.

Here is the final piece with the other focal:

Then it was time to work with the clasp and the "Inspire" charm/focal.

I decided to keep it simple and incorporate the vintage strand of purple glass beads, add a strand of purple leather, add the clasp, and VOILA! The PERFECT purple bracelet!! I will keep this one for myself. (I have lots of purple clothing - believe it or not)

There you have it. My Bead Soup Blog Hop #8 entry. Please hop on over to Lori's Anderson's blog, Bead Soup Blog Hop # 8 - list of participants, and check out as many other blogs as you can.

Thank you for stopping by. Please leave a comment below!!!

New Post - Finally!!!

In March, my youngest son, Shawn, took me on a road trip to Dallas, TX. He didn't want to go alone and chose me to tag along!!

We went to the fabulous Gas Monkey Grill to eat! We went to Ikea. AND We went to a HUGE bead store!! Shawn funded my shopping trip to the bead store. OMG!

We also shopped many antique shops.

I purchased many new beads and vintage beads.

This necklace was made with my new Orchid/pink beads and Vintage acrylic black and white beads.

I love how it has a spring-like feel to it. So fun. And fashionable!!
