Unfortunately, sign-ups for this party have passed. There are over 500 participants! OMG!

The rules are simple. I will be assigned a partner. We will exchange our "bead soup" which includes one focal, one special clasp (not a lobster claw), and coordinating beads with one exception: No religious or political items.

A Year of Jewelry - Weeks 2 and 3

I'm a tad bit behind in posting! I've been sick with sore throat this past week. It's Sunday, I'm feeling better, so now it's time to BLOG!

Week 2 of A Year of Jewelry - the theme was grace. I immediately thought of Butterflies. And here is what I designed! I titled this piece, "Grace in Flight". It is one of my favorites to wear!!

It is made with a gorgeous organza ribbon woven through a silver-plated chain. The butterflies are actually buttons I sewed onto the ribbon. The stones are dyed in pastels and attached with jump rings.

The overall length is 16 inches, but I attached an extra length of chain as an extender.

Very "spring-like".

The 3rd week of A Year of Jewelry had the theme of Music. I decided to use some of my lamp-work beads I made.  I made 2 bracelets, one is blue - "Music to my Heart"  and one is pink/green - "Pinkalicious" bracelet .

Here are my pictures:

Thanks for stopping by!!

Memories and Thanks Blog Hop

How did this Blog Hop come about?

The following is borrowed from Lori Anderson's blog, Pretty Things

"You never know what you might mean to someone.

In order to participate in the Bead Soup Blog Party, you need to have a blog. Marianna was very excited about the party but needed help to build a blog.  Marianna and I talked about what she wanted and I made it for her. Marianna started blogging.

The Bead Soup Blog Party came and went but Marianna hadn't signed up. I sent her a few emails to see how she was but there wasn't a response. Then one day, her daughter emailed me to let her know Marianna had suddenly passed away.

Days went by and I got a box in the mail from her daughter. I knew the box was coming, and that it had something in it from Marianna that she hadn't had a chance to mail before her death. What I DIDN'T expect was for each bead to be individually wrapped with Marianna's personal messages attached to each one, and a card that told me how she valued Lori's friendship.

So the Memories and Thanks Blog Hop was birthed!

This blog hop is both for Marianna and for those people in our lives who mean a lot to us -- a mom, a friend, a brother -- anyone who has meaning to us.  Create a piece of jewelry that tells that story."

Now for my memories and thanks -
This is dedicated to my mother. I am the oldest child of 5 and only girl. I was and am, a strong-willed girl and woman. My mother taught me to be! As I grew up, I was always close to my mom. However, over the years we began to  clash. I made some bad choices and chose a path of self-destruction. My mom tried to provide guidance. I wouldn't hear of it. I distanced myself from her. I even told my her she wasn't my mother and to never speak to me again. She mailed me a Christmas gift that year. I mailed it back. Time passed. I was told I had to forgive to find some peace. I did as suggested (through a lot of writing and emotional work).

Through the help of 12 huge Steps, I have learned much about me, and my mom. We have made peace with each other. Today, my mom is my best friend. I love her more than life!

In July 2011, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer, metastaticized to her liver and both lungs, as well as in her right breast and her lymph nodes. I was devastated! What I heard the doctor say was - "get your affairs in order. If you're lucky, you may live to see Christmas."

My mom told the doctor she wanted to fight. She would do what it took to live to see her 50th wedding anniversary (May 2013). My mom asked me to attend all doctor's appointments, and gave me the privilege of being her healthcare proxy. I was honored. I have held to my commitment and have walked with her every step of the way.

She survived 2 different rounds of chemo treatments. Which landed her in the hospital 4 different times. Once in ICU. While in ICU, she had a heart attack!!

Today, my Mom is still alive. She has fought cancer and beats it everyday that she remains alive. There are no spots in her liver or her lungs. The spot in her breast has been shrunk to a manageable lump.

My mom has taken up beading and chain maille. She is my partner. My Best Friend. We travel together and do craft shows together. I love her! I do my best to honor her in my actions.

The necklace I made is in her honor. I chose purple because it's representative of royalty - my mom is royal! The Pink in the necklace is symbolic of her fight against cancer. I chose pearls because pearls are classic and classy - LIKE MY MOM!!

Thanks to my mom for helping me become who I am today!!

So here is my design...

A Year of Jewelry - Week 1

I recently joined a Facebook group, A Year of Jewelry. Each week a theme is posted and all members create something to go with the theme - or their own theme. The themes are simply suggestions for creative slumps. Here is what I created for Week 1 - the theme is Renewal.

Renewal in Red Necklace is a 2-stranded necklace made with red glass pearls, red rice beads, and red coral beads on the longer strand. It is accented with silver pillow beads and small silver balls on longer strand. It is for sale $30.

Simply gorgeous!
